
Win over Gonzaga Propels Waves to Regular Season Title Clinch

RESULTSMALIBU, Calif.: The 13th-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team clinched its sixth-consecutive West Coast Conference regular season title with a 4-0 sweep over Gonzaga at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Waves finished the regular season with a 19-4 overall record and a perfect 9-0 record in WCC action. It is the second year in a row that Pepperdine has gone undefeated throughout conference action during the regular season. In 2017, the Waves dominated the WCC with 4-0 or 5-0 sweeps in all nine matches to clinch the title.
Seniors Christine Maddox and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai were honored before the match and each Wave had at least a doubles and singles win throughout the match. Pepperdine bested the Zags with a doubles point clinch early on, and then went on to produce victories on courts four, five and six to clinch the overall dual.
In doubles, senior Christine Maddox and sophomore Luisa Stefani downed Nevada Apollo and Dominque Garley with a 6-3 mark to help the Waves' effort. Then, sophomore Dzina Milovanovic and freshman Ashley Lahey bested Alex Bourguignon and Kate Ketels with a 7-6 set with a 9-7 tiebreak win to send Pepperdine into singles with the 1-0 advantage.
In singles, senior Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai struck first with a pair of 6-0 set scores to best Ketels in the No. 5-position. Milovanovic then put a 6-2, 6-3 win over Garley on the board to put the Waves one within the dual clinch with four courts still in action.
Junior Laura Gulbe would be the clincher on court four, producing a 6-0, 6-1 win over Haruna Tsuruta to win the match 4-0 for the Waves on the day.
