
No. 13 Pepperdine Dominates Portland in 5-0 Sweep

MALIBU, Calif.: The 13th-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team extended its winning streak to 13-consecutive matches after sweeping Portland 5-0 at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. The Waves are still undefeated in West Coast Conference action after eight-matches, with the final conference match-up taking place tomorrow at home against Gonzaga at noon.
Pepperdine (18-4, 8-0 WCC) opened the match with a powerful doubles performance over Portland (8-11, 3-5 WCC). The Waves then pounded down on the Tigers in singles action en route to the 5-0 finish with wins on courts one, four, five and six.
In doubles, senior Christine Maddox and sophomore Luisa Stefani finished first, dominating Jelena Lukic and Jelena Lazarevic with a 6-0 result in the No. 1 position. In the No. 2-slot, senior Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai and junior Mayar Sherif then put down Radina Dimitrova and Tatiana Grigoryan 6-0 to clinch the doubles point and put the Waves up 1-0 heading into singles action.
In singles, sophomore Dzina Milovanovic finished first to extend the Waves lead, downing Anna Oberg with a 6-1, 6-3 final mark on court six. 12th-ranked Stefani won her first set in the No. 1 position with a 6-0 result and went up 4-3 over Jelena Lukic before her opponent retired due to injury and she won the match, putting her team in a position to clinch.
Runglerdkriangkrai and 90th-ranked junior Laura Gulbe would finish almost simultaneously, with Runglerdkriangkrai earning the overall clinch with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Emily Soares on court five. Gulbe would finish out the day for the Waves with a 6-2, 6-1 on court one to make it a 5-0 conference win for Pepperdine.
The Waves will cap off the regular season at home on April 22 with Gonzaga at noon. Seniors Christine Maddox and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai will be honored before the match.
