RESULTSMALIBU, Calif.: The 17th-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team returned to West Coast Conference competition on Friday afternoon, sweeping Brigham Young University at the BYU Tennis Courts to advance to 6-0 in conference action.
The Waves opened the day with a dominating performance in doubles, winning on courts one and three to pull ahead early. The team the rolled over the Cougars in singles with victories on six, three and the clinch from senior Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai on five. The Waves have swept all six West Coast Conference opponents the team has faced this season.
In doubles, senior Christine Maddox and sophomore Dzina Milovanovic won the first match of the day with a 6-1 victory over Demi Perkinson and Taylah Beckman in the No. 3 position. Shortly after on court one, sophomore Luisa Stefani and freshman Ashley Lahey put down Savannah Ware-Avina and Natella Nabieva with a 6-2 final mark to clinch the doubles point and send the Waves into singles with the 1-0 advantage.
Singles action was heavily weighted towards Pepperdine as well, with the Waves collecting sizeable first-set wins on all six courts. Milovanovic put the Waves up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory on court six over BYU's Alana Bourgeois to start the action.
The Waves 32nd-ranked Mayar Sherif then crushed her opposition Samantha Smith with a 6-1, 6-2 result to put Pepperdine in a position to clinch the match.
Runglerdkriangkrai would do just that as she clinched the 4-0 sweep with a pair of 6-3 final set scores over Demi Perkinson.
