
No. 17 Pepperdine Advances Winning Streak to 11-Straight

RESULTSSAN DIEGO, Calif.: Freshman Ashley Lahey clinched the 17th-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team's 11th-straight victory with a 4-0 win over San Diego on Saturday afternoon at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center, leading the Waves to the team's seventh uncontested West Coast Conference sweep this season.
The Waves (15-4, 7-0 WCC) opened the day by clinching the doubles point with wins on courts one and two over the Toreros (8-12, 4-3 WCC), before defeating opponents on courts one, two and three to finish off the sweep. Pepperdine has won 11-consecutive matches, including eight with sweeps.
In doubles, the 6th-ranked duo of senior Christine Maddox and junior Mayar Sherif bested Gemma Garcia and Daniela Morales 6-1 to gain an early edge. The pair possesses and 8-3 record from the No. 1 doubles position. After dropping the match on court three, the Waves rallied back with a 6-3 win by sophomore Luisa Stefani and freshman Ashley Lahey over Nicole Anderson and Colomba DiFilippo. The duo has gone 7-3 in dual action this season when playing together, including three wins from the No. 2-slot.
In singles action, the Waves dominated the courts early. Pepperdine's 9th-ranked Stefani crushed her competition in the top-spot with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nicole Anderson. Then, 32nd-ranked Sherif put down Gemma Garcia with a 6-2, 6-3 final mark on court three to put the Waves in a position to clinch. The wins mark Stefani's 11th in the No. 1-spot during dual season and Sherif's ninth in the No. 3 position.
Lahey delivered the final blow in the No. 2-position with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Daniela Morales to close out the road weekend with Pepperdine 10th-sweep of the season. She is now 12-0 when playing in the No. 2 position and holds a 13-1 dual record for the Waves.
On courts four, five and six, all three Waves had also collected at least one set win apiece before the match was clinched forcing them to be abandoned.
The Waves will close out the regular season at home on April 21 and 22, hosting Portland and Gonzaga. The match against the Bulldogs will also serve as senior day for the Waves.
