
Waves Win Season-Opener 83-71 at LBSU

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The Pepperdine women's basketball team won the first game of the 2017-18 season on Friday, defeating Long Beach State 83-71 in head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones' debut at the helm of the Waves. Yasmine Robinson-Bacote led the Waves with 24 points and Sydney Bordonaro marked 21 points on six three-pointers.

After the break, Pepperdine came out firing on all cylinders looking to close the gap. The team went on a 15-2 run fueled by Langston and Robinson-Bacote, giving them a lead that they would not relinquish. Pepperdine would lead 56-49 after three quarters.
After a 58-58 tie in the fourth quarter, the Waves shut the door and picked up a three-pointer by Paige Fecske and a pair of free throws from Langston to start extending the lead. After that start, Pepperdine shot off to another 12-0 run that put the game out of reach for LBSU. After a few late attempts by the opposition to close the gap, the Waves put the match away with an 83-71 final result for the first Waves' win of the season.
