
David Hunt Garners AVCA 30 Under 30 Award

LEXINGTON, Ky.: - Current Pepperdine men's volleyball assistant, David Hunt, was honored with the AVCA 30 Under 30 Award, as released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association this Friday morning. This is the second time Hunt has received the honor, with the first awarded during the 2010 campaign.
The accolade was created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport. To qualify, the nominee has to be 30 years old or younger in 2015 and make an impact in the act of coaching volleyball. Of the 30 recipients that received the award this year, 12 are NCAA Division I coaches, six are in high school and club, four are in NCAA Division III, three are NCAA Division II and NAIA and two are two-year college coaches.
Hunt has been an instrumental part of the Pepperdine men's volleyball program for nine seasons as an assistant coach. During his time with the Waves prior to the 2016 campaign, the Waves have posted a 98-65 (.601) overall record. He is also currently a member on the AVCA Assistant Coaches Committee.
Beginning in the 2014 campaign and currently, Hunt coaches with the U.S. Women's National Team. He helped lead the team in 2014 to a gold medal run at the FIVB World Championships in Italy, the team's first-ever gold medal at any major tournament.
In 2013, he served as an assistant coach for the Japan Men's National Team, helping the team move up two spots in the FIVB World Rankings and earn the first FIVB World League win in over two years.
Throughout his time with the Waves, Hunt has coached four AVCA All-American First Teamers including Josh Taylor, Matt West, Kasey Crider and Paul Carroll, four second team selections including West, Parker Kalmbach, Maurice Torres and Cory Riecks and one honorable mention selection Brennan Anderson.
He has coached 10 Volleyball Magazine All-American's, including first team honorees Jonathan Winder, Torres, Crider and Carroll; second team selections West, Kalmback, Torres and Riecks and third team recipient Taylor.
The 2016 Waves close out the regular season on Saturday at UCLA, before competing in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament as the sixth-seed.
