MALIBU, Calif. " Too many turnovers by the Pepperdine men's basketball team and a few clutch three-pointers by Loyola Marymount allowed the Lions to claim a 90-83 double-overtime victory on Saturday afternoon in the West Coast Conference regular-season finale.

LMU (13-16, 6-12) hit three-pointers at the end of regulation and the end of the first overtime to extend the game, and finally pulled away in the second OT. The Lions ended a seven-game losing streak to the Waves (17-12, 10-8) in the Wells Fargo PCH Cup matchup.

The Waves outshot the Lions, 48% to 41%, and had the edge at the free throw line (26-for-36 to 18-for-29). But Pepperdine committed 20 turnovers to LMU's six (a season-worst -14 turnover margin, twice the previous high). That helped the Lions to take 20 more shots than the Waves and accumulate a 24-9 advantage in points off turnovers. Additionally, LMU hit eight three-pointers to Pepperdine's one.

Senior forward Jett Raines (Coppell, Texas/Coppell HS) had a team-high 21 points and added eight rebounds. He became Pepperdine's 39th 1,000-point scorer with a basket in the first overtime.

Senior forward Stacy Davis (Laveen, Ariz./Fairfax HS) and junior guard Lamond Murray Jr. (Los Angeles, Calif./Bishop Montgomery HS) both collected double-doubles. With 19 points and 12 rebounds, Davis had his 14th of the season (including each of the last four games) and the 34th of his career, giving him sole possession of fifth place on the Waves' all-time list. Murray got his second double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior guard Jeremy Major (Pasadena, Calif./Maranatha HS) contributed 15 points (making a career-high 11 free throws) and a season-high eight assists. He moved up to eighth place on the Waves' all-time assist list.

Pepperdine led by nine points less than five minutes into the game but a difficult stretch would see the Waves go nearly nine minutes between field goals. A 19-3 run put LMU ahead 30-21, and 32-25 at halftime.

The second half was close throughout and the Waves would eventually take a four-point lead at 62-58 with 2:30 left after a basket by Raines.

An LMU three-pointer by Steven Haney cut it to one soon after. The Waves took a pair of three-point leads at 64-61 and 66-63. The Lions missed their first two three-point attempts but kept getting the ball back, and Marin Mornar was good on the third one with 23.5 seconds left. The Waves missed on their final attempt.

The Waves scored the first four points of the first overtime period and still led by four at 74-70 with a minute and a half to go. But another Haney three-pointer made it a one-point game. The teams mostly traded free throws the rest of the way, and Major made two to put the Waves up 78-75 with 31.9 seconds left. LMU's Munis Tutu hit the game-tying three with 9.3 seconds left, and again the Waves were unable to score with the last shot.

Pepperdine never led in the second overtime as the Lions scored off the tip and quickly added two free throws to go up by four. At 82-81, the Lions scored the next six points to go up by seven with a minute to play.

The game had a total of 13 ties and five lead changes.

It was the second time this season Pepperdine and LMU went to overtime (the Waves won 68-65 in Firestone Fieldhouse on January 2). The Waves haven't won a multi-overtime game since December 2002.

Pepperdine will be the fourth seed at the upcoming WCC Championships and will play fifth-seeded San Francisco in the quarterfinals next Saturday (March 5) at approximately 3 p.m. at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The game will be televised by Time Warner Cable SportsNet. Pepperdine Hall of Famer Al Epstein will have the call on WaveCasts at PepperdineSports.com.
