
Men's Volleyball to Host Shandong Club Team this Week

MALIBU, Calif. - In anticipation for the 2017 campaign, the Pepperdine men's volleyball team will be hosting China's Shandong club team in an exhibition match this Saturday afternoon in Firestone Fieldhouse.
The gym will open at 12 p.m. for warmups with first serve beginning at 1 p.m. (PT). All fans are welcome to attend the event at no cost. The match will have a full production with scoreboard and videoboard. Live stats and video will not be available for those unable to attend.
This will be fans first opportunity to see the 2017 Waves in action before the spring season begins. The Waves returned 17 from the previous 2015-16 season, including four starters and a libero. Pepperdine also added five newcomers, including two freshmen to the roster for the upcoming year.
The Shandong club team is a squad located in the Shandong province of China. The team is a part of the Chinese Volleyball League (CVL), which is the pre-eminent men's and women's professional volleyball leagues in China which began in the 1996-97 season on the men's side.
There are currently 12 teams playing in the `A' men's league, of which Shandong is one. Other teams include Bayi, Beijing, Fujian, Guangdong, Henan, Hubei, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Shanghai, Sichuan and Zhejiang. In the 2014-15 campaign, Shandong finished as the runner-up in the CVL, losing to 12-time champions Shanghai. There are currently four players on the Chinese Men's National team that have played for Shandong's club team.
