Men's Golf Gets Season Underway at Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. " Sophomore Anthony Cecere had the best day for the Pepperdine men's golf team as the Waves got the 2015-16 season underway on Sunday at the Gopher Invitational.
Unfortunately, the Waves find themselves in 11th place after two rounds with a total of 602 (298-304) at the par-71 Windsong Farm Golf Club. The third and final round is on Monday, although three schools (Oklahoma, California and host Minnesota) have a few groups that didn't finish the second round before darkness set in. Those schools will finish the second round early Monday morning before third-round start times are set.
Cecere (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) is tied for 24th place with a 6-over 148 (73-75). He had a total of three birdies on the day.
Junior Robbie Geibel (Pembroke Pines, Fla./American Heritage HS/Louisville) is tied for 33rd place at 150 (75-75), junior Cody McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) is tied for 49th place at 153 (72-81), senior Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) is tied for 53rd at 154 (78-76) and freshman Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) is tied for 67th at 158 (80-78).
Geibel and Cootes were making their Pepperdine debuts. McManus was tied for 10th after posting a 1-over 72 in the first round. He and Cootes tied for the team high with a total of five birdies on the day.
