Men's Golf Wraps Up First Tournament of Fall Season

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. " Junior Cody McManus shot a 1-under 70 to lead the Pepperdine men's golf team during the third and final round of the Gopher Invitational on Monday.
In the end, the Waves were unable to make a move up the leaderboard and finished in a tie for 11th place. Pepperdine shot a total of 895 (298-304-293) over the two days at the par-71 Windsong Farm Golf Club and finished with the same score as Michigan and New Mexico.
The Waves were close to even-par for much of the third round and a top-five finish looked promising for a while, but a few late bogeys and worse dropped them back in the standings.
McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) moved up 21 spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 29th place with a total of 223, as did teammate and sophomore Anthony Cecere. McManus (72-81-70) had an eagle on the par-5 18th hole and two other birdies. Cecere (73-75-75) finished the tournament with a total of six birdies.
Junior Robbie Geibel (Pembroke Pines, Fla./American Heritage HS/Louisville) tied for 39th place at 225 (75-75-75). He had an eagle on the par-5 12th hole on Monday.
Senior Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) tied for 55th at 227 (78-76-73). He had 41 pars over the three rounds, more than any other golfer in the tournament. Freshman Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) was 79th at 245 (80-78-87).
The Waves will next be in action at the Primland Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Wake Forest at the Highland Course at Primland in Meadows of Dan, Va., on September 28-29.
