June 17, 2015

MALIBU, Calif. -- Three members of the Pepperdine men's volleyball team will be playing for Team USA this summer, including current student-athletes Soren Dion-Kindem and Colby Harriman, as well as incoming freshman Michael Wexter.

Dion-Kindem (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura HS) and Harriman (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit HS) were both named to the 21-man roster for the U.S. Men's Junior National Training Team. The pair is currently in Lake Placid, N.Y. training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

The 12 players who make the final roster will travel to Canada to play in the Men's Under-21 Pan American Cup on June 23-28. The Pan American Cup is the final chance to qualify for the U21 World Championship, held on Sept. 12-20 in Mexico.

Dion-Kindem, entering his junior season this fall, has served as a backup setter for the Waves the past two seasons. He got the starting bid in the 2015 season opener at North Greenville, scattering 21 assists and leading Pepperdine .378 team hitting percentage in the 3-0 win.

Harriman, a freshman outside hitter in 2015, also served a supporting role this past season. He saw extensive time at NGU, scoring on five kills.

Wexter (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West HS), who signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Waves last November, earned a spot on the U.S. Boys' Youth National Training Team.

The 2015 training team will meet in July in Des Moines, Iowa and train in conjunction with the USAV High Performance Championships. The team will be cut to 12 players who will go on to compete at the FIVB Boys' U19 World Championship on Aug. 14-23 in Argentina.

Additionally, several recent graduates of the Pepperdine men's volleyball program have signed on to play professionally overseas. Three-time All-American Matt West (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood HS) will be playing for the SWD Powervolleys in Düren, Germany. Nikola Antonijevic (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson HS) and Scott Rhein (Pleasant View, Tenn./Aaron Academy) are both heading to France, to play for AS Cannes and Chaumont Volley-Ball 52, respectively. Parker Kalmbach (Coto de Caza, Calif./Tesoro HS) is expected to take his talents to the beach.
