Men's Golf Places Sixth at Own Jones Invitational

VALENCIA, Calif. - Kevin DeHuff and Cody McManus turned in top-20 finishes and Frederick Wedel was 1-under on the day as the Pepperdine men's golf team wrapped up its own Jones Invitational on Tuesday.
The Waves came in sixth place with a two-day total of 879 (297-287-295) at the par-72 Valencia Country Club. Pepperdine moved up one spot in the final round. USC shot a 14-under 850 to defeat Kennesaw State by 16 strokes.
DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS), a senior, tied for 15th place with a 2-over 218 (72-72-74). It was his fourth top-20 finish of the season and the fourth time he's led the Waves.
McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS), a redshirt sophomore, collected his first top-20 finish of the season. He tied for 19th place with a 3-over 219 (76-69-74).
Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS), a junior, moved up 16 places and into a tie for 23rd place at 220 (76-73-71). He had a total of five birdies on the day in his eighth below-par round of the season.
Freshman Anthony Cecere (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) tied for 35th at 224 (73-73-78) and sophomore Robin Kang (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./South Torrance HS) tied for 42nd at 225 (76-73-76). Cecere had an eagle on the par-4 13th hole.
Playing as individuals, junior David Pelekoudas (Irvine, Calif./University HS/Orange Coast College) tied for 59th place at 230 (76-79-75) and freshman Connor Nam (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral HS) tied for 70th at 233 (81-76-76).
In the individual race, Winthrop's Zach Seabolt and USC's Sean Crocker both finished with 8-under 208s. Seabolt defeated Crocker on the second playoff hole to win top individual honors.
Pepperdine defeated two of the other three West Coast Conference teams in the tournament, beating San Diego by eight strokes and Pacific by 22, while BYU finished two shots ahead of the Waves.
Pepperdine's next tournament is the San Diego Classic on March 9-10.
