Hirtensteiner Releases Recruiting Class

Dec. 4, 2015

MALIBU, Calif. - Head Coach Rick Hirtensteiner released the Pepperdine baseball recruiting class this week, with three athletes signing to play for the Waves in 2017.

Hirtensteiner, who is in his first season as Pepperdine's head coach after serving as a long-time assistant, will welcome Trevor Franklin, Quincy McAfee and William Jensen to the Waves' program.

Here's a look at the recruits:

Trevor Franklin - RHP - 6'3", 215 - Mira Costa High School - Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Hailing from Manhattan Beach, Calif. Franklin is a 6-foot-3 righty with the ability to pound the zone and a Pepperdine pedigree after his father played for the Waves in 1979-81. Franklin went 11-0 and was named Bay league Pitcher of the Year this past season, earning first-team All-State, All-Area and All-League honors, along with second-team All-CIF. Franklin played his club ball for the Garciaparra Baseball Group.

Coach Hirtensteiner on Trevor: "Trevor Franklin is a tall right-handed pitcher who pounds the zone with low strikes. I love his ability to attack the hitter with quality pitches and force contact early during at-bats. Trevor has been very successful at the high school level and I expect him to continue his success when he arrives on the Pepperdine campus. Trevor already has Pepperdine in his blood as his father, Paul Franklin, was a pitcher at Pepperdine from 1979 to 1981 and was a member of the Pepperdine baseball team which won 53 games and placed third at the College World Series in 1979."

Franklin on why he chose Pepperdine: "I chose Pepperdine because I loved everything about it, most importantly the baseball and education. I look forward to graduating with a great degree and also contributing to many Pepperdine baseball team victories. Go Waves!"

Quincy McAfee - SS - 5'10", 175 - Westside High School - Houston, Texas

Quincy McAfee, a 5-foot-10 shortstop out of Houston, Texas, comes to Pepperdine after a prodigious prep career. McAfee was voted district MVP as a prep junior and team MVP as a sophomore while at Westside HS. He hit .500 with 12 doubles and 16 stolen bases as a junior. McAfee was also named MVP of the Perfect Game Jupiter Qualifier in Tomball, Texas. He played his club ball with the Texas Drillers.

Coach Hirtensteiner on Quincy: "The Pepperdine coaching staff loved Quincy from the moment we saw him play. He is a dynamic and versatile player who will help the Waves win games whether it is making plays on defense, scoring and driving in runs with the bat, or his overall baseball intelligence. Waves fans will definitely enjoy watching his tremendous athleticism on the field. I expect Quincy to be an important component of continuing the success of Pepperdine baseball. He is exactly what we are looking for in a Pepperdine player; competes on the field to help us win championships, works hard to excel in the classroom and has a willingness to serve others."

McAfee on why he chose Pepperdine: "I love the support that the coaches give me throughout the recruiting process and how kind-hearted they were. Plus, who doesn't enjoy 70 degree weather."

William Jensen - RHP/INF - 6'3", 165 - Cottonwood High School - Murray, Utah

William Jensen comes in as a versatile right-hander for the Waves and is expected to contribute on the mound right away. Out of Cottonwood High School in Utah, Jensen also played his club ball with the Mountain West Baseball Academy. Jensen was a four-year Junior Olympic team member and was named to the Four-Corners Area Code Team. He also competed at the Perfect Game National Championships.

Coach Hirtensteiner on Wil: "I expect Wil Jensen to pitch in big games for the Waves as a freshman and be a true impact player the moment he steps on campus. Wil has remarkable command of all his pitches, loves to be on the mound in big games, performs well in those games, and has the poise of a veteran pitcher. Wil pitches with an inner calm and confidence which, along with his work ethic, will make him a great asset for the Pepperdine baseball program. I look forward to seeing Wil competing on the mound and winning games at Eddy D. Field Stadium in the spring of 2017."

Jensen on why he chose Pepperdine: "I chose Pepperdine for the academic and athletic opportunities."
