MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team is preparing for a rematch against the CSUN Matadors as the Waves welcome them to Eddy D. Field Stadium for a Tuesday tilt.
Â
Tuesday, March 31 | 3:00 pm PT | Eddy D. Field Stadium | ESPN+ | Live Stats | Tickets
- Probable starting pitchers: RHP #32 Pierson Howe (0-1, 9.69 ERA) vs. TBA
Tuesday's contest is a 2-for-1 Tuesday, which includes BOGO tickets, $2 hot dogs, $2 soda, and $2 popcorn (food deals are for the first 30 people at concessions).
Â
Following the loss against the Matadors earlier this month on March 9, Pepperdine is 50-49-2 all-time against CSUN. The Waves will look to begin reversing a trend that has seen the Matadors win seven of the last 10 matchups, including a season sweep in 2025.
Â
In the meeting on March 9, Pepperdine jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the third inning but CSUN responded in the bottom of the frame with a five-spot before racking up seven more runs in the fifth to put the game on ice.
Pierson Howe, as he will on Tuesday, was used as the opener in that contest and did his part, going two scoreless innings. He struck out a pair and walked two while giving up only one hit.
Â
TUESDAY'S GAME
Will mark the second of three games against this season. The first game was on March 9 at the Matadors, a 12-1 loss (7 inn.) for the Waves, and the third game will be back at CSUN next week Tuesday, April 7 (5:00 pm PT start).
Â
PROGRAM MILESTONE
Pepperdine baseball will record its 4,000th career game in program history on Thursday, April 2, at Gonzaga. Entering Tuesday's contest against San Diego, the Waves have won 56.3 percent of their games.

BILLY IN THE BIG LEAGUES
2021 alum Billy Cook made the Pittsburgh Pirates Opening Day roster, as announced by the Pirates last Wednesday. Billy, the older brother of current Waves infielder
Danny Cook, is among a massive group of Pepperdine alum who have made it in the big leagues, joining the likes of 1986 National League Cy Young winner Mike Scott, Chase D'Arnaud, Mike Fetters, Steve Montgomery, Will Ohman, Andy Stankiewicz (current USC baseball head coach), Eric Thames, and Randy Wolf. Cook hit .286 in his four years at Pepperdine, currently ranking 10th all-time in Waves history in home runs (26) and sixth in slugging percentage (.552).
SCAVONE PUTS ON A SHOW
Tommy Scavone dazzled on Saturday against San Diego, going six scoreless innings. It marked the third consecutive start that he went at least a half-dozen innings. In his last 19.2 innings of work across three starts, Scavone has a 2.29 ERA (five earned runs). During that span, he has improved his ERA from 7.36 (entering a March 13 contest against UMass Lowell) to 4.74 after his start on Saturday against the Toreros.
Â
NUMBER 8 IS PRETTY GREAT
Daniel Patterson has been putting up all-conference numbers this season, boasting a .304 average while rocking a .961 OPS. His seven home runs are part of a four-way tie for second-most in the West Coast Conference. Of Patterson's 31 hits this season, 15 have gone for extra bases (seven doubles, one triple, seven homers), which ranks as a tie for the second-most in the conference. He has racked up 60 total bases so far in 2026, which ranks fourth in the WCC.
Â
WELL DUNN
Outfielder
Trey Dunn has stepped up in a big way at the dish this season. He has a team-leading five multi-RBI games and paces the squad with a 12-game on-base streak. No. 5 has been a balanced hitter in 2026, recording a .316 average against southpaws (6-for-19) while going 15-for-57 (.263) against right-handers. He's been excellent with runners on base, mashing at a .314 clip (11-for-35) while tallying five RBI with two-out, the second-most on the team only behind
Daniel Patterson (6) and
James Dell'Amico (6).
WE COULD DO THIS AUDE
Catcher
Max Aude has been consistent behind the plate and in the batter's box this season. Number nine is hitting .280 entering Tuesday's clash with CSUN and has been one of Pepperdine's best hitters with runners on base, recording a .409 average (9-for-22).
Â
HITMEN
Daniel Patterson and
James Dell'Amico have fortified the Waves' offense this season. Patterson leads the squad with 11 multi-hit games, while Dell'Amico has racked up seven. Patterson, 'Delly', and
Kai Laxa are in a three-way tie for the longest hitting streak this season, with Laxa currently carrying that streak.
Â
SHUTDOWN STEWART
The results are in, and it shows that
Dylan Stewart has that dog in him. On 'Bark in the Park' day Sunday against San Diego, No. 44 relieved starter
Collin Valentine at the beginning of the fifth and ended up going the distance, tallying five scoreless innings. He gave up just one hit and one walk while sitting down six and earning his first win of the season. Closer
Lucien Wechsberg was ready to go in the bullpen but Stewart struckout Gabe Springer to finish off the series-clinching win over the team picked to finish first this season in the WCC.
Â
PUTTING THE 'W' IN WECHSBERG
Graduate pitcher
Lucien Wechsberg has been one of the most reliable Waves' arms this season. In 13.1 innings, Lucien has recorded a 1.35 ERA along with a 1.20 WHIP. He has given up just 10 hits while striking out 14 and walking six. Opponents are hitting .208 off of Wechsberg, who has recorded three of Pepperdine's five saves and tallied two of the Waves' eight wins.
Â
DELLY GETTIN' THE JOB DONE
James Dell'Amico has been electric all season, hitting a whopping 12-for-31 (.393) with runners in scoring position. He is also tied with
Daniel Patterson for the most two-out RBI on the squad (6).
