The weekend series features a litany of exciting promotions, including dollar hot dogs (first 30 people at concessions) and free Chick-Fil-A for the first 50 students. On Saturday, fans will receive a trading card pack giveaway postgame, and on Sunday, fans are welcome to bring their dog to the ballpark for Bark in the Park day (all dogs must be on a leash).
The Waves are 133-85 all-time against the Toreros, despite San Diego winning nine of the last 12. San Diego has also taken five of the last six games in Malibu. The Toreros are off to an 8-15 start this season (1-2 WCC) after finishing runner-up in the WCC Tournament in 2025. San Diego dropped two of three in somewhat surprising fashion last weekend at Gonzaga, a team that Pepperdine will see on the road later next week. SD is led at the plate by Jayden Lobliner, who is hitting .344 (93 at-bats) while recording an OPS of 1.070. He has walloped eight home runs and driven in 23. On the hill, it has been a tough go for the Toreros pitching staff, recording a 7.43 ERA. Hayden Cody leads all San Diego starters with a 4.76 ERA but holds a 1.65 WHIP.
FRIDAY'S GAME
Marks the second of a five-game homestand for the Waves. A matchup against CSUN on Tuesday, March 31 will conclude the homestand.
PROGRAM MILESTONE
Pepperdine baseball will record its 4,000th career game in program history next Thursday, April 2, at Gonzaga. Entering Friday's contest against San Diego, the Waves have won 56.3 percent of their games.
BILLY IN THE BIG LEAGUES
2021 alum Billy Cook made the Pittsburgh Pirates Opening Day roster, as announced by the Pirates on Wednesday. Billy, the older brother of current Waves infielder
Danny Cook, is among a massive group of Pepperdine alum who have made it in the big leagues, joining the likes of 1986 National League Cy Young winner Mike Scott, Chase D'Arnaud, Mike Fetters, Steve Montgomery, Will Ohman, Andy Stankiewicz (current USC baseball head coach), Eric Thames, and Randy Wolf. Cook hit .286 in his four years at Pepperdine, currently ranking 10th all-time in Waves history in home runs (26) and sixth in slugging percentage (.552).
NUMBER 8 IS PRETTY GREAT
Daniel Patterson has been putting up all-conference numbers this season, boasting a .308 average while rocking a .942 OPS. His six home runs are tied for second in the West Coast Conference with San Diego's Jayden Lobliner. Of Patterson's 28 hits this season, 12 have gone for extra bases (five doubles, one triple, six homers), which ranks as a tie for the third-most in the conference. He has racked up 52 total bases so far in 2026, which ranks fourth in the WCC.
HE (W)OSBORNE FOR THIS
Dylan Osborne has made an impact for the Waves despite having just 13 at-bats on the season. In his limited time on the diamond, No. 1 has recorded a .308 average and driven in a pair. He has also swiped one of Pepperdine's seven stolen bases.
MAD MAX
Catcher
Max Aude has been consistent behind the plate and in the batter's box this season. Number nine is hitting .295 entering Thursday's clash with San Diego and has dominated right-handed pitchers, recording a .282 average (11-for-39).
SAFE AND SOUND
Julian Nunez has been an on-base machine. Nunez reached base in 11 consecutive games earlier this season, marking a team-high. His ability to get on the basepaths has allowed him to tie with
Kai Laxa for the second-most multiple run games with four. He is second on the squad in runs scored with 17 and is third on the team in multi-hit games with six. In three of the last six games, Nunez has either scored two or more runs or had a multi-hit game. Against UCLA on 3/17, he scored two runs and had two hits, while recording two hits and three runs in the conference opener at Saint Mary's.
HITMEN
Daniel Patterson and
James Dell'Amico have fortified the Waves' offense this season. Patterson leads the squad with 10 multi-hit games, while Dell'Amico has racked up seven. 'Delly' has also recorded the longest hitting streak (eight games, which he is currently on), while Patterson currently carries a seven-game hitting streak.
Kai Laxa is riding on their coattails with a five-game hitting streak.
LEADOFF LAXA
Kai Laxa has been effective as the leadoff hitter for Pepperdine. After being moved from the nine-spot to the top spot in Head Coach
Tyler LaTorre's lineup, the Waves have won five of their 12 contests when Laxa is in the lineup, with four of the seven losses coming by only one run. Laxa has shown his ability to fly around the diamond, scoring 14 runs (3rd on the team) and steal a base on one attempt.
PUTTING THE 'W' IN WECHSBERG
Graduate pitcher
Lucien Wechsberg has been one of the most reliable Waves' arms this season. In 11.2 innings, Lucien has recorded a 1.46 ERA along with a 1.22 WHIP. He has given up just 10 hits while striking out 14 and walking five. Opponents are hitting .222 off of Wechsberg, who has recorded two of Pepperdine's four saves and tallied two of the Waves' six wins.
DELLY GETTIN' THE JOB DONE
James Dell'Amico has been electric all season with runners on base this season, hitting a whopping 11-for-25 (.440) over a team-leading 25 at-bats with runners in scoring position. He is also tied with
Daniel Patterson for the team lead in two-out RBI (5).
