
Waves Move Up to Fourth at Bill Cullum Invitational

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. " The Pepperdine men's golf team bounced back from a tough first round to post the best round of the day and climb into fourth place after 36 holes of the Bill Cullum Invitational on Monday.
After an opening-round 294 that put the Waves into 13th place, Pepperdine came back with a 14-under 274 in the afternoon for a two-round total of an 8-under 568. The Waves will be chasing two West Coast Conference rivals (LMU at -17 and Santa Clara at -12) and Seattle at -14 during Tuesday's third and final round at the par-72 Wood Ranch Golf Club.
The 14-under was the third-best single-round team score in program history. The Waves have put together both the second- and third-best rounds in school history in the last eight days, as Pepperdine recorded a 17-under last Monday at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational.
Freshman Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) leads the Waves, as he is tied for 14th place with a 3-under 141 (75-66). His 6-under 66 in the afternoon included seven birdies and an eagle on the par-5 second hole.
Theegala's 6-under was joined by 4-under 68s by juniors Cody McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) and Robbie Geibel (Pembroke Pines, Fla./American Heritage HS/Louisville) in the afternoon. Geibel had six birdies, while McManus had four birdies and zero miscues.
Geibel is tied for 21st place with a 1-under 143 (75-68) and McManus is tied for 26th with an even-par 144 (76-68), while senior Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) is tied for 34th at 146 (70-76) and freshman Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) is also tied for 34th at 146 (74-72).
Playing as an individual, senior David Pelekoudas (Irvine, Calif./University HS/Orange Coast College) is tied for 29th place at 145 (72-73).
