MALIBU, Calif. - After taking a 2-1 series win over WCC-rival San Diego this past weekend, the Pepperdine baseball team cracked the Baseball America national rankings for the first time this year, coming in at No. 23.
The Waves are also ranked by Collegiate Baseball for the seventh straight week, checking in at No. 24, and came in at No. 29 on the NCBWA Top 30 list. Pepperdine is also receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The No. 23 ranking in the Baseball America poll is the Waves' highest since 2009 in the publication. Pepperdine has climbed as high as No. 17 in the Collegiate Baseball poll this year and No. 25 in the NCBWA poll.
With one week remaining in the regular season, the Waves are currently 34-14 overall and 17-7 in WCC play. Pepperdine sits in first place in the conference standings, needing either two wins over Gonzaga next weekend, or a win and an LMU loss to lock up the outright WCC title.
The Waves have wins this season over three teams currently ranked in the BA Top 25, having already defeated No. 6 Cal Poly, No. 16 Houston and No. 24 UC Irvine.
