2011 NCAA Champion Florida Too Much for Waves

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The defending NCAA champion and #1-ranked Florida proved to be too much for the #27 Pepperdine women's tennis team today in a neutral court contest on the campus of Stanford. Although Khunpak Issara and Lorraine Guillermo were able to earn the win over the Gators' top doubles duo, Florida shut out the Waves, 7-0.
In doubles, Florida posted victories on courts two and three to claim the point.
In the final match to finish, Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/World Study Centre) and Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) found themselves tied at seven with Allie Will and Alexandra Cercone. With the doubles point already spoken for, the pairs went to the tiebreaker where the Waves outlasted the Gators 7-5 to get the "W."
Florida won all seven singles matches, but not without some challenges. Megan Moore (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) claimed the opening frame against Olivia Janowicz, 6-4, before the Gator bounced back with 6-2, 6-1 wins in the final two sets.
Guillermo split sets with Joanna Mather - who is listed #4 in the ITA singles rankings - before bowing out 6-2 in the final stanza.
Arianna Colffer (Corona, Calif./Buena Vista) also spit sets in her match at the #4 spot in the lineup, before Cercone edged Coffer 6-4 in set three.
