MALIBU, Calif. - The #26 Pepperdine women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season after cruising to a 7-0 victory versus Cal State Northridge.
Beginning in doubles, the Waves jumped out to the early lead in all three matches. In the #2-match, the CSUN pair of Nigora Sirojiddinova and Anna Yang fought to tie the contest at 7-all versus Ali Walters (Newport Beach, Calif./Creekside Christian HS/UCLA) and Megan Moore (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS), but the Waves claimed the final two games to post the 9-7 victory.
Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) and Khunpak Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/World Study Centre) shined in the top match, overpowering Jennifer Sher and Sabrina Man-Son-Hing, 8-3.
Minutes later, Ale Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hidalgo) and Arianna Colffer (Corona, Calif./Buena Vista) put away an 8-4 triumph versus Maria Pistalu and Lorraine Cheung.
The momentum from winning the doubles point carried over into singles, as the Waves took all six singles matches in straight sets.
Issara gave up just two games in a win over Sirojiddinova in the two-spot, while Guillermo mirrored the 6-1, 6-1 score in a victory against Sabrina Man-Son-Hing on court three.
The Waves continued to roll as Walters and Moore both won from the #5 and #6 singles spots, respectively, in the lineup.
Granillo captured her first dual win of the season, defeating Sher, 6-2, 6-3 in the top match, while Colffer concluded the day for Pepperdine with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Maria Pistalu.
The Waves continue this week's action with a 1:30 p.m. match this Saturday (Feb. 4) at #16-ranked USC.
