Women's Tennis Falls to #2 Stanford

MALIBU, Calif. - The #30 Pepperdine women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss at home to #2 Stanford on Thursday afternoon inside the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Cardinal keeps its perfect record intact and is now 15-0, while the Waves fall to 7-6 this season.
The dual began yesterday afternoon. With the threat of rain, the teams elected to play singles first. One set in all six matches was completed before the inclement weather halted action.
With the sun shining in Malibu, Pepperdine and Stanford resumed the dual at 11 a.m. this morning. The visiting team claimed straight-set wins in four matches to claim the team victory.
Anamika Bhargava (Collierville,Tenn./Houston HS) rebounded from a 6-1 loss yesterday to win the second set 6-3 today versus #21-ranked Kristie Ahn. Ahn won in the deciding frame 6-2.
On court five, Khunpak Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/World Study Centre) was upended in the tiebreaker by #51 Stacey Tan to enter today with a one-set disadvantage. She was victorious in the second 6-3, but eventually lost in the third stanza.
Although the dual had been decided, the squads elected to play the three doubles matches. Ale Granillo (Pachuca, Mexico/Instituto Hidalgo) and Issara nearly topped Hilary Barte and Veronica Li but a late break gave the Stanford pair the 8-6 win.
The Cardinal also won on courts one and three.
Later this week, the Waves face Saint Mary's at home on Sun., Mar. 27 at 12:30 p.m. for a West Coast Conference showdown.
