MALIBU, Calif. - Three people that were part of the Pepperdine men's volleyball program -- Bob Ctvrtlik, Rod Wilde and Kirk Kilgour -- earned awards at USA Volleyball's Dorothy Boyce Awards and Recognition Banquet on May 27.
Ctvrtlik received both the Harry E. Wilson Distinguished Service Award and the George J. Fisher Leader in Volleyball Award. The Distinguished Service Award, awarded for significant contributions to USA Volleyball and impact internationally within the sport of volleyball, is named in honor of Wilson, the USAV's president (1969-71). The Leader in Volleyball Award, awarded for significant volleyball achievements over a minimum of 20 years, is named in honor of Fisher, who was the organization's first president (1928-52).
Ctvrtlik was the National Player of the Year in 1985, his only season playing for Pepperdine, and helped the Waves to a national championship.
Wilde, a former player and head coach, and Kilgour, a former head coach, made the USA Volleyball Thomas Haine All-Time Great Players list. Wilde was a four-time All-American from 1976-79 and was head coach from 1986-88. He won a title as a player (1978) and as head coach (1986). Kilgour was head coach from 1979-81, and was an assistant coach on the 1985 title team.
