MALIBU, Calif. - The #2 Pepperdine men's volleyball team won for the 12th time in its last 13 matches with a three-game sweep (30-26, 34-32, 30-26) of #5 Hawaii in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play on Friday night in Firestone Fieldhouse.
The Waves (13-5, 11-4) and the Warriors (14-8, 10-7) continue their two-match series on Saturday night at 7 p.m. "Wave Casts" subscribers can watch the match online at www.pepperdinesports.com.

Pepperdine never trailed in the first game, and led by as many as four points, first at 17-13 and last at 20-16. But Hawaii eventually tied it at 21-21 and 22-22. The Waves then went on a 4-0 run, with the Warriors contributing a service error and two unforced hitting errors, followed by a block by Jaynes and Crider. Hawaii got no closer than two points the rest of the way, and the game ended after a Hawaii service error and attack error. Pepperdine enjoyed a .344-.171 hitting advantage.
The second game featured 13 ties and 10 lead changes and the Waves needed a remarkable comeback to take a 2-0 lead. Although Pepperdine went up by six at 16-10, a 5-0 run by the Warriors later put Hawaii ahead 25-22, and their lead grew to four at 28-24. But Torres and Schleppenbach recorded kills, Crider and Jaynes shared a block and Jaynes had a solo block to even the score at 28-28. The Warriors served for the game three times, but on the last one, Riecks got a kill to make it 32-32. A Hawaii attack error gave the Waves back the lead, and Santos finished the extended second game with a solo block.
Pepperdine let a decent-sized lead get away in the third game, but once again finished strong. A 4-0 run that included a kill by Riecks and a solo block by Jaynes made the score 10-5, though the Warriors would eventually tie the game at 18-18. It would stay tied at 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26. But tied 26-26, the Waves got a kill by Schleppenbach and then three straight blocks to end the match: a shared block by Torres and Jaynes, a solo block by Torres and a triple-block by Torres, Riecks and Jaynes.
