CAIRO, Egypt -- Pepperdine's Julie Rubenstein helped a select USA women's volleyball squad to a pair of wins over Egypt's national team over the weekend.
Rubenstein had been previously named to the 12-player USA team, which was selected by head coach Hugh McCutcheon and is made up of elite developmental athletes on the verge of being added to the U.S. Women’s National Team. The two matches with Egpyt were part of an exchange program involving the United States Olympic Committee and the Egyptian National Olympic Committee.
In a three-set victory (25-13, 25-15, 27-25) over Egypt on April 12, Rubenstein had a match-high 16 points, which included 11 kills and five service aces.
“The team played really well,” Rubenstein told USAVolleyball.org. “We are starting to gel well together. The coaches provided us with a thorough scouting report, and were able to make adjustments to be more efficient. It was a fantastic win to finish off this trip.”
In the first match on April 10, the U.S. won in four sets (25-14, 25-27, 25-18, 28-26). Rubenstein had eight kills, eight digs, one block and one service ace.
The U.S. team also took a cruise on the Nile and a trip to the pyramids during their stay.
