Rubenstein Named to "Stellar Spikers" Team

MALIBU, Calif. -- Senior outside hitter Julie Rubenstein of the Pepperdine women’s volleyball team added one more award to her haul this week, as Collegiate Volleyball Update named her to its "Stellar Spikers" first team.

Wrote CVU.com in its press release: "In honoring the 88 student athletes from across the nation, CVU.com looked for players that exhibited excellence and balance. While NCAA statistical rankings were considered, they weren't the only consideration. Also considered in forming the two teams of 14 and in choosing the 60 Honorable Mention selections was the impact the player had on helping her team succeed as well as conference awards. First- and Second-Team selections were formed around the idea of building a team with a starting lineup of seven players and then two players per starting slot were chosen to fill out each team."

Rubenstein (Camarillo, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) ended one of the top careers in school history last December after the Waves’ first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Long Beach State.

She earned AVCA All-American third team honors in 2008 and All-West Coast Conference honors in each of her four seasons, including the last three on the first team. She was selected to the AVCA All-Pacific Region first team honors for the first time this season. Rubenstein was also voted Pepperdine’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year for 2007-08, is a three-time WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient, a three-time WCC All-Academic selection and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.

Rubenstein led the WCC in both kills (4.42) and points (5.14) per set in 2008. She finished her Pepperdine career third all-time with 1,743 kills, third with 2,064 points, fifth with 4.12 kills per set and fifth with 116 service aces. Quite impressively, she never missed a set in her four-year career, playing in all 423.

CVU.com previously named freshmen Kim Hill and Stevi Robinson to its "Rising Stars" list as two of the top 16 freshmen in the country.
