Winder Earns Academic All-District Honors

MALIBU, Calif. Â Pepperdine men’s volleyball standout Jonathan Winder added another honor to his lengthy list of 2008 accomplishments on Thursday, as he was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 first team.

Winder (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS), who recently graduated with a degree in advertising, is now eligible for Academic All-American honors.

As a senior setter in 2008, Winder was named an AVCA All-American for the fourth time and made the first team for the second straight year. He was named MPSF Tournament MVP as Pepperdine made a somewhat unexpected run to the title, and then earned a spot on the NCAA Championships all-tournament team after helping the Waves to a second-place national finish. He earned Pepperdine Athletics’ Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for 2007-08 and should earn MPSF All-Academic honors for the third time.

He wound up as Pepperdine’s all-time leader in assists (5,118) and fourth in digs (656).

Winder is currently part of a USA Volleyball team comprised up-and-coming players in the national team system that is training and playing a series of exhibitions in Japan. Former Pepperdine player Andy Hein is also part of this team.
