Additionally, Winder was named the AVCA’s National Player of the Week today following his MVP performance at the MPSF Tournament.
“Jonathan is a really good athlete who had to carry a big load as a freshman, and nothing’s changed,” Pepperdine Coach Marv Dunphy said. “He’s carried that load with class.
“It’s no secret that all year long we’ve gone to Paul whenever we’ve needed to score. He’s come through at a fairly high level. He’s not one-dimensional. He sees the game really well and makes big plays.”
Winder (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS), a senior setter, becomes only the eighth player ever to earn four-time AVCA All-American honors. He was on the second team as a freshman and sophomore and the first team as a junior and senior. He was also the AVCA National Player of the Year in 2007 (the 2008 award will be announced on Wednesday).
The last player to earn four-time All-American honors was Pepperdine’s Sean Rooney from 2002-05.
