MALIBU, Calif. Â— Pepperdine women’s volleyball player Julie Rubenstein has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team, the organization announced today. Rubenstein will next have her name placed on the national ballot for Academic All-American honors.

Rubenstein (Camarillo, Calif./Oaks Christian HS), a senior outside hitter, was named to the Academic All-District third team last season. She carries a 3.53 grade-point average in liberal arts and is finishing up one of the best volleyball careers in school history.

Rubenstein was voted Pepperdine’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year for 2007-08, and she is a three-time WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient and a two-time WCC All-Academic selection. She is Pepperdine’s first-ever member of the NCAA’s national SAAC (the student-athlete advisory committee).

She is currently second in the WCC and 19th nationally in kills per set (4.26). She is also averaging 2.42 digs and 0.33 aces and is hitting .300 for the Waves, who are currently 16-5 overall and ranked #23 nationally by the AVCA.
