Waves Picked #1 in Preseason MPSF Poll

Last season’s Waves went 21-1 in conference (the best league mark by any team in more than a decade) and 26-3 overall. The Waves finished as the runner-up at the MPSF Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Final Four.
Pepperdine edged out Brigham Young for the top spot. Both schools received five first-place votes, but the Waves ended up with 108 points to the Cougars’ 105. UCLA was a close third with 104 points. The Bruins and Cal State Northridge each received one first-place vote.
The Waves return three starters: senior setter Jonathan Winder (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS), the 2007 AVCA National Player of the Year and a three-time All-American; junior outside hitter Paul Carroll (Forster, Australia), an Australian National Team member and a 2007 All-American first teamer, and junior outside hitter J.D. Schleppenbach (Ventura, Calif./Ventura HS)
The predicted order of finish is as follows: Pepperdine, BYU, UCLA, UC Irvine, Cal State Northridge, USC,
