Ctvrtlik is the fifth person affiliated with Pepperdine to be inducted: long-time men's head coach Marv Dunphy (1994), former women's coach Patti Bright (1996), former men's player Craig Buck (1998) and former men's coach Kirk Kilgour (2002 Mintonette Medallion of Merit).

“In an era when increasingly the game is dominated by powerful players with great jump serves, outstanding hitters and huge blockers at the net, Bob carved out his place by being maybe one of the best master technicians of the game and a great passer and defender,” said Doug Beal, CEO of USA Volleyball. “At one point he was acknowledged as the most outstanding serve receiver in the world. He was playing with Karch Kiraly at the time so it was quite an honor and credit to his abilities. Bob was captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team and perhaps one of those athletes who reached close to his full potential as any athlete could. He simply outworked everybody in the gym and figured out a way on the court to not only be a winner, but to make the players around him better in every team environment he was evern involved in.”
Ctvrtlik played at Pepperdine for one season in 1985 and earned National Player of the Year honors. He helped Pepperdine win the NCAA title and was named MVP of the NCAA Championships.
“More so than any other player that I’ve ever coached, everything that Bob Ctvrtlik accomplished is because of Bob Ctvrtlik,” Dunphy said. “He made all his own breaks. He’s one of the most proactive people that I know. He truly deserves this honor.”
