Pepperdine Shuts Down USF, 2-0

It was the Waves’ first win in conference play and they improved to 4-6-6 overall and 1-2-1 in the WCC.
Idom (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS), a transfer in her first year at Pepperdine, scored nine goals last year at NAIA school California Baptist. She notched her first at the Division I level in the 24th minute against the Dons. It started with sophomore forward Courtney Price (
“It feels amazing and I’m really relieved to get that first goal,” Idom said. “After tying a bunch of games, I’m really glad we put this one away and got the shutout.”
The Waves had numerous other chances to add to their lead in the first half, with a couple of dangerous free kicks from just outside the penalty area and a couple of close-range attempts that were mishit.

“It felt really good,” McDonald said. “I had a feeling that today would be our day. I think all of our hard work definitely paid off.”
The Waves outshot USF 14-6 and had a 5-0 edge on corner kicks. Pepperdine junior goalkeeper Kayla Stolte (
“I thought we played very well in the first half and created enough chances to be up by two or three goals,” Pepperdine Coach Tim Ward said. “It’s been the case all year that we needed a killer instinct. Kylie went in as a sub and got that killer goal, the one we’ve been lacking all year. Joanna’s first goal was really great. We battled today and played well and I’m pleased we could get the positive result.”
Pepperdine earned its third shutout of 2007 while USF was shut out for the 10th time.
The Waves return to Tari Frahm Rokus Field on Sunday (Oct. 28) and will host Saint Mary’s at 1 p.m.
