Pepperdine Quotes
Head Coach Steve Rodriguez
On today's loss:
Our guys did a pretty good job battling today. There was nothing overly wrong about what the team did today. The guy [Missouri starting pitcher Aaron Crow] pitched the game of his life today and you have to tip your hat to him. We've been here before in the same situation having to play an elimination game on championship Monday so it's just a matter of going out and loosening up a little bit and playing like we have all year.
On the pitching at the Malibu regional:
You've seen the pitching at this regional. When you take the guys on each team, it's a pretty good pitching staff on all four teams. We've already faced two possible first-round draft picks. We had a chance to bring in another run in the first inning, but if you're not pounding the ball around the field that will find a way to hurt you. In this stadium every run counts.
On Missouri starting pitcher Aaron Crow:
He pitched the game of his life; you have to tip your hat to him. He was keeping our guys off-balance and throwing strikes. You look at his numbers and he's not that kind of pitcher, but he was today.
Missouri Quotes
Head Coach Tim Jamieson
I can't say enough about our efforts today especially this guy right here [Aaron Gray] and have the opportunity to play on Monday again is great because being in the loser bracket you have to have some pitching that finds a way to get it done. I've been watching this a long time and usually when you see a team going through the loser bracket things have happened that haven't all year. For us to have two freshmen to throw complete games on the same day is remarkable and I think it's a testament to their capability. We scored just enough runs to win and we're excited to be playing tomorrow and looking forward to the opportunity.
On the freshmen pitchers:
I thought they pitched well. I didn't think I would get 18 innings out of them. I was hopeful to get them through six innings, but we were going to stay right with them for awhile and if not then we would have to score some runs. They are both guys that started in conference for us and both of them have had very good outings and great freshmen years at this point and they certainly capable.
If you look at the pitchers; how many walks have there been the entire weekend and how many times has a pitcher been behind in a count? When you're capable of staying ahead of the count and don't give any free passes it's going to be a dominant pitching regional. It's by far the best pitching I've seen at a regional as a coach.
On tomorrow's lineup:
I have no idea. We're just going to try to get 27 outs tomorrow, we're not sure how we're going to go about doing that. I think it will definitely be a pitching staff effort.
Pitcher Aaron Crow
On today's game:
I'm just glad we can still play tomorrow. I was able to throw change-ups for strikeouts, so throwing three pitches for an out really helped.
Third Baseman John McKee
On the homerun:
I was just looking for a good pitch to hit. I saw a lot of breaking balls all day. I just try to stay mentally prepared at all times and I was able to help the team out today.
