Three Waves Land on All-WCC Team

MALIBU, Calif. - Senior forward Glen McGowan, junior guard Alex Acker and senior forward Jennifer Lacy were named to the All-West Coast Conference (WCC), team that was announced on Monday. Rookies Kingsley Costain, Russell Hicks and Daphanie Kennedy were selected to the all-freshman team, while junior Kelsey Ball and Kennedy were named honorable mention.

McGowan was named All-WCC for the second consecutive year while Acker is a first-time selection after receiving honorable mention in 2004 and earning "Freshman of the Year" honors in 2003.

McGowan finished second overall in the WCC in scoring and third in rebounding, averaging 19.2 points and 7.7 rebounds a game. The senior forward, who averaged 17.6 points in WCC play, reached digit-scoring in 27 of 29 games this year, paced the Waves with seven double-doubles and led Pepperdine in rebounding a team-high 13 times.

Acker concluded the regular season averaging 16.1 points a game (17.2 in WCC) to place eighth in the conference and was second on the Waves. He also finished second on the team in rebounds and assists, averaging 6.6 and 3.69, respectively. Those totals ranked eighth and fifth, respectively.

The junior guard had 23 double-digit scoring games and had two double-doubles.

Costain played in 27 games, starting nine, and averaged 6.9 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists a contest. He scored in double figures eight times, including a career-high 21 in an overtime win at Santa Clara on February 17. He also hit-the game-winning basket in the regular-season finale against Loyola Marymount on Saturday.

Hicks appeared in 28 games, starting five, and averaged 3.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and finished second in the WCC with 1.6 blocks per game. He established career-highs with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and eight blocked shots in a victory over Portland on February 12.

Gonzaga, which captured the regular season title with a 12-2 mark, swept the individual honors as senior forward Ronny Turiaf was tabbed the "Player of the Year", junior guard Erroll Knight was named the "Defensive Player of the Year", junior center/forward J.P. Batista was chosen the "Newcomer of the Year" and Mark Few was selected "Coach of the Year."

On the women's side, Lacy was tabbed All-WCC for the first time in her career after leading the WCC in scoring at 16.8 points a game, while pulling down 8.1 rebounds. The Agoura Hills, Calif., native was WCC Honorable Mention as a junior. The 6-foot-3 Lacy recorded eight double-doubles and was tabbed conference "Player of the Week" three times during her senior season.

Freshman Kennedy was named to the All-Freshman team after averaging 11.4 points a game in WCC contests. The Oakland, Calif., native connected on 19-53 three point tries, while leading the team in steals with 34. Kennedy was also tabbed Honorable Mention.

Finally, junior Ball was named Honorable Mention for the first WCC honor of her career. Ball scored a career-best 16 points twice during league play while averaging 6.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per WCC contest.

The women's team is the No. 4 seed in this week's WCC postseason tournament and will face Saint Mary's at approximately 8:00 p.m. (PT) in opening round action, while the men enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face Loyola Marymount of Friday in Santa Clara, Calif.
