Pepperdine Men Finish Fifth, Women Sixth at Cal Poly Invitational

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Senior Chad Trammell placed 16th to help the Pepperdine men's cross country team to a fifth place showing in the eight-kilometer Cal Poly Invitational at the Fairbanks Cross Country Course Saturday morning in San Luis Obispo.

Trammell turned in a time of 27:37.1 to lead the Waves in the eight-team event.

Host Cal Poly captured the event with 21 points while UC Santa Barbara finished second with 45 points. UC Irvine (71) was third followed by Loyola Marymount (111) and Pepperdine, which rounded out the Top 5.

Andy Coughlin of Cal Poly was the individual winner as he out-distanced the field in a time of 22:58.4

In the women's five-kilometer run, Pepperdine placed sixth in the 12-team run. The Waves, who totaled 197 points, were led by freshman Sarah Camp who turned in a time of 19:39.6 to place 33rd. Junior Tarrah Crowley was one spot back as she was 34th after completing the run in a time of 19:41.2.

UC Irvine won the team title as the Anteaters totaled 46 points to finish ahead of second-place Loyola Marymount, which tallied 63 points. See Jane Run RT (64) was third followed by Cal Poly (90) and Fresno State (144).

See Jane Run RT's Kim Ramirez turned in a time of 17:47.3 to finish first while UC Irvine's Laura Olvera (17:53.8) and Amber Steen (17:58.1) placed second and third, respectively.

Pepperdine is next in action Friday afternoon when it travels to Orange County to compete in the Titan Invitational in Brea, California.
