Cross Country Completes UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Pepperdine cross country finished its third race of the season this morning at the Ag Ops Course, home to the UC Riverside Invitational. The invitational events saw the men finish seventh in the 8K and the women finish 24th in the 6K. In the women's 5K open, the Waves took 21st. 

 

Elijah Gentry (23:59.9) and Gordy Nilsen (24:11.0) were the top finishers for the men—finishing 11th and 17th, respectively. 

 

Lizzy Crawford led the charge in the women's 6K. Her time of 21:04.5 earned 32nd. Next for the Waves was sophomore Grace Simpson (22:20.7).

 

The final event the Waves competed in was the women's 5K open where Kennedy Duralde paced the unit, finishing 46th (18:48.2).

 

San Francisco won the women's 6K and men's 8K while Fresno Pacific took the women's open 5K.

  

The team next returns to Riverside on Oct. 18 for the Highlander Invitational—their final race before conference championships.

ABOUT PEPPERDINE CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK

The Pepperdine cross country/track program has a rich history dating back to the 1950s with six total individual national championships to come through the program. As one of the original three programs sponsored by then George Pepperdine College in 1937, the Waves immediately began to make a mark on the track world stage with eight total Olympians and multiple regional champions throughout the program's history.
