Cross Country Heading to UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. –  Pepperdine Cross Country heads to the Inland Empire this weekend for the UC Riverside Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 27. 

 

Racers will compete at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course, a 420-acre plot featuring citrus trees, canals, and a gradually climbing elevation.

 

The day begins at 7:15 a.m. for the women's 6K. The men's event, an 8K, will start at 7:50 a.m.

 

After the two invitationals, there will be two open events. The women's 5K (8:25 a.m.) and another men's 8K (8:55 a.m.).

 

The Waves will be represented in all four events.

 

Pepperdine will compete against schools Allan Hancock, Biola, Cal Baptist, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State San Marcos, Central Arizona, Chapman, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Concordia Irvine, CSUN, Cuyamaca, East Los Angeles, Eastern Washington, El Camino, Fresno Pacific, Fresno State, Hope International, La Verne, Long Beach State, Moorpark, Mt. San Antonio, Point Loma, Pomona-Pitzer, Redlands, Riverside City College, Sacramento State, San Bernardino Valley, San Diego State, San Francisco, San Francisco State, Southern Nevada, Southern Utah, St. Mary's (CA), Stanislaus State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Cruz, UNLV, USC, Utah Tech, Western New Mexico, and Whittier.

The last outing saw multiple Pepperdine racers finish in the top ten at the Biola Invitational. On the men's side, Elijah Gentry earned second-place (24:12.9) and Patrick Thomas took ninth (24:39.0) in the 8K. Lizzy Crawford led the Waves charge in the women's 5K, finishing fourth with a time of 18:04.6.

 

ABOUT PEPPERDINE CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK

The Pepperdine cross country/track program has a rich history dating back to the 1950s with six total individual national championships to come through the program. As one of the original three programs sponsored by then George Pepperdine College in 1937, the Waves immediately began to make a mark on the track world stage with eight total Olympians and multiple regional champions throughout the program's history.
