Five members of the Pepperdine tennis program were tabbed to the West Coast Conference (WCC) All-Academic team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Men's tennis sophomores Kevin Borzenski and Scott Doerner were selected for their academic and athletic accomplishments. Senior Charlotte Vernaz, sophomore Natalie Braverman, and junior Karin Schlapbach picked up the respectable honor on the women's side.
With three honorees, Pepperdine had the most number of representatives for the females.
Borzenski maintains a 3.47 GPA in Philosophy and guided the Waves to a WCC Title playing at the Nos. 2-3 doubles slot. He earned a doubles victory with partner Calle Hansen in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Fresno State.
Doerner, an International Business major, holds a 3.27 GPA and led the Waves to its 15th-straight WCC Championship this season. He finished the season 22-14 overall in singles and 26-8 in doubles. At one point during the year, he and partner Alex Herrera catapulted to the No. 16th-ranked doubles team in the nation. Doerner was selected to the All-WCC doubles team.
No. 100th-ranked Vernaz returned to the Waves in the spring semester after completing an internship in Paris, France. An All-WCC first team member, Vernaz graduated from Pepperdine in May with a 3.24 GPA and a degree in International Business.
A senior in the classroom and a junior on the court, Schlapbach graduated from Pepperdine in May with a 3.38 GPA in Psychology. She produced a successful season on the court where she went 24-12 (singles) and 18-11 (doubles) overall.
Braverman, a sophomore International Business major, added another award to her long list of accomplishments. The No. 27th-ranked singles player in the country, Braverman most recently earned Region XIII Academic All-America and All-WCC first team accolades.
