Waves Close Out Easter With Sweep Against Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers men's volleyball team suffered a three game loss to the visiting No. 4 Pepperdine Waves on April 10. With the loss the Tigers drop to 8-19 overall and 4-16 in the MPSF while the Waves improve to 17-7 overall and 13-7 in conference play.
Game scores for the match were: 30-24, 30-24, 30-22.
Despite taking the opening point in each of the three games in the match, the Tigers struggled to find their rhythm and momentum throughout the match.
The Tigers continued to strike the ball with incredible accuracy in game one as they hit .400, the fourth consecutive game hitting .400 or above for Pacific. Junior Nils Dauburs (Riga, Latvia) continued to hit well as he went 8-of-11 for a hitting percentage of .727. Senior Sean Rodgers (Fresno, Calif.) pounded down five kills in seven attempts, finishing the game at .714. However, the Tigers lost control of the game at 6-7 when the Waves went on a 10-4 run to push their lead to 10-17. The Tigers would only be able to chip off one point from the seven point deficit, falling 30-24.
Game two was much closer than the opening game as the Tigers took a one point lead late in the game at 19-18. After falling behind by one, the Waves took control of the game and the momentum, as they went on a 10-2 run.
Pacific lost control of game three early, falling behind by 10 at 21-11. Sophomore Brian Adamson (Arlington, Heights, Ill.) tried to keep the Tigers in the match as he tallied nine of his 10 kills in the third game.
Overall the Tigers were outplayed in almost every statistical category, with the biggest difference coming in the blocks category. The Waves outblocked Pacific, 18.0-to-6.0, tallying 34 block assists during the contest. The Tigers were led by Dauburs who finished with a match-high 14 kills and a .545 hitting percentage, while Adamson produced 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .562.
Pepperdine had two hitters reach double figures in kills as Sean Rooney and Fred Winters finished with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. John Parfitt and Andy Hein both recorded nine blocks on the night while Rooney had seven.
