From the 2014 Hall of Fame program:

Almost a decade ago, Jennifer Lacy became the first-ever women’s basketball player from the West Coast Conference to make a WNBA roster, and her career is still going strong in the league.

Lacy was born with strong athletic genes, as her father, Lee Lacy, played in Major League Baseball for 16 seasons and won a World Series championship with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1979. She attended nearby Agoura High School, where she was an All-CIF and all-county player and set school records for scoring and rebounding before having her jersey number retired.

Lacy had a solid four seasons with the Waves, and saw her playing time steadily grow year by year. She moved into the starting lineup as a junior forward in 2003-04, and was named All-WCC honorable mention after averaging 8.8 points and 5.1 rebounds. She had a breakout season as a senior, making the All-WCC first team after leading the conference with 16.9 points per game and also leading the squad with 8.1 rebounds and 0.9 blocks.

She scored in double-figures in 24 out of 27 games as a senior and posted eight double-doubles. Lacy scored a career-high 34 points against San Francisco, which ranks among the top 15 single-game performances in Pepperdine history, and set a school record by making 20 free throw attempts in that game. Her 16.9 points per game ranks 10th on Pepperdine’s single-season list, and the 18.6 points that she averaged during league play ranks sixth.

Lacy’s teams never finished out of the top half of the league standings, and won both WCC regular-season and tournament titles in 2001-02 and 2002-03. The Waves went on to play Villanova in the 2002 NCAA Tournament and Louisiana Tech in the 2003 NCAA Tournament.

She made it to the postseason for a third time as a junior, as Pepperdine was selected to play in the WNIT. The Waves played Washington in the first round. The Waves didn’t advance past the WCC Tournament during Lacy’s senior year, but she was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 18.0 points in two games.

Over Lacy’s four years, the Waves went a combined 74-46 (.617). She scored a total of 933 points in 102 career games before graduating in 2005 with a degree in public relations.

No WCC player had made a WNBA roster prior to 2006, and Lacy became the first when she signed with the Phoenix Mercury as an undrafted free agent. She led all rookies in field goal percentage (.477) in 2006. In her second season, she won a WNBA championship with the Mercury in 2007.

Lacy was taken by the Atlanta Dream in an expansion draft and played there two seasons (2008 and 2009). She served as a team captain in 2008. She then joined the Tulsa Shock in 2010 and has been with that franchise for the past five seasons.

In nine WNBA seasons, Lacy has scored 1,329 career points in 268 games and has recorded averages of 5.0 points and 2.3 rebounds. She scored a career-high 21 points in Seattle during the 2013 season. In the recently concluded 2014 season, Lacy played in all 34 games and averaged 3.5 points.
