MALIBU, Calif. – No. 20 Bassam Beidas clinched the match against Princeton for the Pepperdine men’s tennis team Friday afternoon, at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center, 7-0. The Waves are on a five game winning streak.
Pepperdine (8-6) swept the doubles competition to win the doubles point over Princeton (7-5). No. 3 doubles James Lemke (Melbourne, Australia) and Mahmoud Kamel (Paris, France) won the first doubles match, 8-3. Beidas (Cairo, Egypt) and Rickus de Villiers (South Africa) clinched the doubles point for the Waves in the No. 2 position with a win over Peter Capkovic and George Carpeni, 8-6. No .23 ranked doubles Andre Begemann (Blomberg, Germany) and Omar Altmann (Cairo, Egypt) defeated Alex Kruger-Wyman and Peter Capkovic in No. 1 doubles, in a tie breaker, 9-8 (4).
Brian Brogan (Los Gatos, California) defeated Parker Preyer, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 6 singles to give the Waves a 2-0 lead. No. 10 Begemman finished second in No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-4 and Beidas finished third on the next court, in the No. 2 position, 6-1, 6-4, to clinch the match.
No. 123 Altmann played a tough match in No. 3 singles to defeat Kruger-Wyman, 6-4, 7-5.
"I knew I had to play aggressive because I had just played against Kruger-Wyman in doubles and I knew he had a big serve. I broke him down in the first set and then again in the second," said Altmann.
Next up, the Waves host Texas Christian University Saturday, March 22, at 1 p.m., at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
