Ben Mullis begins his first season as an assistant coach for the men's tennis program in 2017-18.Â
Mullis comes to Malibu after two years as an assistant coach at Utah State University. He was named the Mountain Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2017 after helping coach the team to their second straight regular season Mountain West Championship, as well as the conference tournament championship. During his tenure at Utah State, the team achieved a school record ITA national ranking of 39th in 2016-17.
Prior to coaching at Utah State, Mullis played collegiate tennis at Drake University, where he was a three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference honoree. He helped lead the Bulldogs to a No. 16 national ranking as well as a bid to the NCAA Tournament each year he played. Individually, Mullis was ranked as high as No. 109 in ITA singles rankings, and served as team captain his senior year. In the classroom, he was a four-time ITA All-Academic recipient.
Mullis is a native of Market Harborough, Leicestershire, England, and was ranked among the top 500 in the ITF junior rankings.
