
No. 9 Women's Golf Holds Lead Following First Round of WCC Championship

The Waves were the lone team to go under par on the day, finishing -2 as a team. Oregon State sits in second place at +2 following the first 18 holes.
Only five individuals shot under par on the day as the average score for the round was over three and a half strokes over the par-72 (75.53). Three Waves got in under par, featuring Kylee Choi (-2), Grace Anderson (-1) and Eunseo Choi (-1).
Kylee Choi trails only Oregon State's Raya Nakao on the individual leaderboard, as Nakao carded a 68 (-4).

"It was a solid start to the WCC Championship today," said head coach Laurie Gibbs following the round. "Our goal for every round is to have five counting scores and we did in the first round. The players look forward to two more days competing for the championship."
Kylee Choi carded a bogey-free round to open the tournament, putting her in second place individually at -2. After an even par-36 on the front nine, Choi made birdies on both of the par-5s on the back nine, coming on holes 10 and 15.
Grace Anderson shot one under par on the day, putting herself in a tie for fourth individually through round one. Anderson began the day with a birdie on the first hole, finishing the front nine at even par. She then went birdie-bogey-birdie to begin the back nine, eventually making par on the final six holes to secure the 71.
Eunseo Choi also carded a 71 (-1) on the day, giving Pepperdine three in the top-four individually on the day. Choi made birdies on both par threes on the front nine, posting a 34 through nine holes with the birdies on five and seven. She went on to go 1-over on the back nine with eight pars, as her lone bogey on the day came at the 12th.
Jeneath Wong sits in a tie for 13th individually following a 2-over 74 in the opening round. Wong bookended her round with birdies on holes one and 18, making three bogeys and 13 pars in between.
Yingzhi Zhu also carded a 74 (+2) to match Wong in 13th on the individual leaderboard. Zhu shot a 35 on the front nine with birdies on one and nine, before recording a 39 on the back nine.

The Waves will tee off in the final pairings for the second round at 9:20 a.m. tomorrow, playing alongside Oregon State and Santa Clara.
