LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Senior Mahanth Churravuri led the way for the No. 8 Pepperdine men's golf team as the Waves completed the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Pepperdine improved on the final day at Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas after a setback on Monday, finishing in 10th place as a team.
Virginia took first in narrow fashion, beating out Auburn by one stroke. The individual champion was Christiaan Maas from Texas, who stroked a 10-under for the tournament.
Churravuri simply dominated the day, starting two-under through the first three after recording birdies on holes two and three. He then completed an eagle on five, and was four under par through the front nine. Churravuri birdied again on 11 before a brief setback on 12 with a bogey. He rebounded by firing birdies on 15 and 16 but double-bogeyed that last two holes. All told, he finished the tournament four under (-2 on Tuesday) and jumped four spots overall to complete the event in seventh place.
Willy Walsh started Tuesday's final round with a birdie on four before carding another on nine, but a double bogey on five sent him one over on the front nine. The San Mateo, California native was even on the back nine after carding two birdies and two bogeys, finishing two over on the day and two over for the tournament.
Byungho Lee improved on the last day, moving up a couple of spots on the leaderboard as he went two over on the day. He carded a par on 14 holes and sunk a birdie on hole nine, helping him shoot eight over for the tournament.
Luke Dariotis shot a three-over par, getting some strokes back with birdies on 10 and 18 to complete the tournament eight over.
Brady Siravo had a couple of birdies early on, finishing one over on the front nine. A double bogey on 11 was a big difference as he completed the round four over and went 11 over for the tournament.
Individually,
Oscar Bach recorded a birdie on 13 but finished five over on the day and 18 over for the tournament.
