AUSTIN, Texas — No. 9 Pepperdine women's golf finished fifth at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational this week, hosted by Texas at the University of Texas Golf Club.
The Waves had the third-lowest final round Tuesday among the 16 teams in the field, coming in at +2 as a unit to move up a spot into fifth. Pepperdine finished +50 for the tournament, which was won by host Texas by over 20 strokes at +14.
Tuesday's final round saw the lowest scores of the tournament, with Kylee Choi carding a 4-under 68 which was the second lowest round from any player on the week. Choi finished in fourth place overall at +5 as Texas' Farah O'Keefe won the tournament as the lone individual under par (-1).
Pepperdine improved its score through each round (326-298-290) on the week with harsh weather conditions playing a factor yesterday. The Waves have now placed top-five in four straight tournaments to conclude the spring regular season.
"Coach Kacey and I are very proud of the players for fighting back the last two rounds after a very slow start in tough weather conditions in the first round," said head coach Laurie Gibbs following the tournament. "We should end the regular season ranked No. 10 or No. 11 which is far better than not being ranked at all in the top-40 of preseason rankings. The players now have a month to focus on classes and finals."
Kylee Choi had the lowest round from any Wave on the week today at -4, with her 68 pushing her into fourth individually at +5 (81-72-68) on the week. Choi kept a clean scorecard during her final round with four birdies and 14 pars. Choi's top-five finish marked her third this spring in five tournaments.
Jeneath Wong had her strongest round of the tournament Tuesday, firing a 1-under 71. Wong posted three birdies on the day, with her lone blemish being a double-bogey on the 11th. She finished the tournament in solo 14th with a final score of +11 (80-76-71). Wong closes the regular season with four straight top-15 finishes.
Eunseo Choi also logged her fourth consecutive top-15 finish, placing 15th at +12 (80-76-72) while improving through each round on the week. Choi's final round saw her collect three birdies and three bogeys on her way to an even par round, finishing with a birdie on the par-5 fifth.
Yingzhi Zhu landed in 45th individually, coming in at +24 (85-74-81) for the tournament. Zhu made 12 pars during Tuesday's final round on her way to shooting +9 (81).
Grace Anderson finished in 50th on the individual leaderboard, posting a +26 (86-77-79) on the week. Anderson shot a 39 on the front nine and 40 on the back in the final round on her way to a +7 mark, making her lone birdie of the day on hole five.
