No. 9 Women's Golf Wins Second Straight Tournament at Yale Invitational West

LA QUINTA, Calif. — No. 9 Pepperdine women's golf earned its second straight tournament victory, winning the Yale Invitational West this week from PGA West - Nicklaus Course in La Quinta.

Pepperdine had its lowest round of the tournament in Tuesday's final round, shooting -7 to post a -15 mark for the tournament, besting Kansas by two strokes. Pepperdine's -7 team score on Tuesday was also the lowest team round from any team across the tournament.

Four Waves finished even par or under across the week, each landing in the top-11 individually. Yingzhi Zhu (-6) led the way with her first career runner-up finish, with Eunseo Choi (-5, 4th) and Jeneath Wong (-4, 6th) also towards the top of the leaderboard.

Zhu, Eunseo Choi and tournament winner Lyla Louderbaugh (Kansas) were the lone three in the field to record three rounds under par on the week.

Pepperdine has now won consecutive tournaments for the first time since September 2023, having won the Fresno State Classic this past week. Pepperdine was also runner-up the week prior at the Bruin Wave Invitational.

The victory marked the 66th team tournament win under head coach Laurie Gibbs, spanning the past 33 seasons.

"Coach Kacey and I are very proud of how everyone competed on a tough course against some good teams," said Gibbs following today's round. "To play well with the pressure to hold a lead will help prepare us for WCC and NCAA Regionals. We're looking forward to our trip to Texas on Saturday for the University of Texas Betsy Rawls tournament."

Yingzhi Zhu posted her second-straight top-three finish, while earning her career first runner-up at -6 (70-71-69) for the tournament. Zhu carded a 3-under 69 in Tuesday's final round, with five total birdies on the day.

Eunseo Choi recorded her eighth career top-10 finish, placing fourth at -5 (71-70-70). Choi shot 3-under on the front nine, with a birdie on two while making eagle on the par-5 seventh, before totaling a 1-over 37 on the back nine to get in with a 70.

Jeneath Wong saved her best round for last as well to help push Pepperdine to the team victory, shooting -3 on the day for a 69. Wong registered six birdies on the day, including three straight from holes 11-13 to assure herself a spot in the top-10. She finished in sixth-place individually at -4 (71-72-69) for the tournament.

Kylee Choi continued her consistent play with a 1-over 73 in the final round. Choi recorded a pair of birdies on five and nine, to go along with a bogey and double bogey for the round. She finished in a tie for 11th individually at even par (71-72-73) for the tournament.

Grace Anderson finished in a tie for 30th individually, finishing the event at +11 (75-76-76) overall. Tuesday's final round saw her begin -3 through her first four holes after starting on hole five. She ended up even par on the course's front nine with a 36 while shooting a 4-over 40 on the back for a 76.

Competing individually, Nishna Patel matched her career-low round with a 71 in Tuesday's final round. Patel carded four birdies on the day to put herself at +11 for the tournament (79-77-71), having improved in each round. She joined Anderson in a tie for 30th on the individual leaderboard.
