WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND — Pepperdine women's golf senior
Jeneath Wong and sophomore
Eunseo Choi are set to compete in the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship, held from Feb. 12-15 at Royal Wellington Golf Club in New Zealand.
In addition, future Wave Kaya Daluwatte is in the field representing Sri Lanka. Daluwatte is set to join the program ahead of the 2026-27 season.
"Jeneath and Eunseo are looking forward to the WAAP as defending champion and host country," said head coach
Laurie Gibbs. "Kaya has been playing very well and is excited to compete against a very strong field. The Waves will be well represented on the world stage!"
The Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) was founded in 2018 by The R&A and the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, to create an event corresponding to The Women's Amateur Championship and U.S. Women's Amateur for Asia, and to unearth emerging talent and provide a pathway for Asia's elite female amateurs to the international stage.
The winner earns invitations to play in three major championships – the AIG Women's Open, the Amundi Evian Championship and The Chevron Championship as well as elite championships such as the Hana Financial Group Championship, ISPS HANDA Women's Australian Open, The Women's Amateur Championship and the Augusta National Women's Amateur.
Jeneath Wong is the defending champion at the event, claiming the title in Vietnam this past March with a WAAP championship record low score of 266 (65-69-64-68), breaking the previous record by four strokes. A native of Melbourne, Australia, Wong also represents Malaysia on the international stage.
Wong has earned 13 top-10 finishes in her collegiate career at Pepperdine, while receiving All-WCC honors in all three seasons thus far. Also a WGCA All-American and former WCC Player of the Year, Wong currently ranks No. 96 in the Scoreboard individual rankings and No. 93 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).
Eunseo Choi also returns to the event after posting a strong 13th-place finish in 2025. Choi returns to her home country, as she is a native of Auckland, New Zealand, and will represent her country on home soil in the tournament.
Choi earned WCC Freshman of the Year honors this past year for the Waves, winning her first collegiate championship at the Silicon Valley Showcase while posting three top-ten finishes down the stretch in the spring. This included the WCC Championships and NCAA Lexington Regional, as she then recorded top-20 finishes in all three fall tournaments with the Waves. Choi currently sits at No. 52 in the Scoreboard individual rankings and at No. 61 in the WAGR.
Kaya Daluwatte has posted multiple notable wins on the amateur circuit including the 2025 Singha Thailand Junior World Championship, the 2024 Nepal Amateur Open and consecutive titles at the Sri Lanka Amateur Open in 2024-25. She also won a bronze medal at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain this past October, marking the first-ever medal won by a Sri Lankan golfer at the games.
This is the first time New Zealand has hosted the championship, which aims to inspire future generations of women golfers and has evolved into the preeminent women's amateur championship in the Asia-Pacific region. Situated alongside the Hutt River, Royal Wellington is well-renowned as a parkland layout and is one of the premier courses in New Zealand.
The Waves will return to action Feb. 23-24, as co-hosts to the Bruin Wave Invitational from Valencia Country Club.
