PORTLAND, Wash. - Pepperdine women's volleyball (18-4, 10-1 WCC) improved to 8-2 on the road in 2026 as the Waves defeated the Portland Pilots (11-8, 4-6 WCC) on Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, Pepperdine matched a season-high seven-match win streak, and Head Coach Scott Wong improved to a remarkable 100 games over .500 in his dozen-year head coaching career (219-119, .650 win percentage). It's Pepperdine's 14th win in the last 15 matches.
Chloe Pravednikov and Mariia Nikol Dvornikova each racked up 16 kills, while Maggie Beauer tallied 10. Pravednikov and Dvornikova blistered Portland on 80 attacks to combine for those 32 kills. The former registered a .317 hit percentage, while the latter notched a .308 percentage.
Defensively, Laine Briggs led the way with 13 digs while recording four service aces to lead all players. Charis Kai (11 digs) and Tristen Raymond (11 digs, 40 assists) also played a sizable role in the victory.
"Portland came out playing some pretty good defense, but I loved our response," said Wong after the contest. "We stepped up to the challenge and played some pretty tough volleyball down the stretch."
In the second set, Pepperdine was cold offensively, tallying just 11 kills, the lowest of any of the four sets. The Waves still made life difficult for the Pilots, pulling to within three after a Lorenzen kill and a Briggs service ace. However, it wasn't enough as Portland ripped off a 5-0 run to scamper away with the set 25-17 and tie the match at one apiece.
Pepperdine got back on track in the third set, taking a commanding 14-3 lead, going on an 11-1 run that included seven consecutive points scored. Briggs tallied a pair of service aces, but it was the Waves defense forcing three straight attack errors that made a difference. Even though Pepperdine had the Pilots right where they wanted them, Portland didn't go down without a fight. Four kills from Eliot Diehl Palmer helped spark a Pilots comeback, eventually pulling to within four at 22-18. Dvornikova rescued the Waves with several kills at the bell, and Pepperdine staved off Portland with a 25-23 set win to go up 2-1.
A seesaw battle occurred in the fourth set until a kill from Beauer put Pepperdine in full control. Her play was the beginning of an 11-3 run that ignited the Waves, and Pepperdine allowed Portland to score consecutive points only three times in the set as the Waves won 25-17, winning the match 3-1.

A tight-knit first set would be a tone-setter. After Pepperdine grabbed a 6-2 lead in the early going after Dvornikova hammered two kills, Portland clawed their way back and took an 8-7 advantage following a Ava Lilo service ace. Neither team would lead by more than two until Eliya Dev helped force an attack error to extend the Waves' lead to 16-13. A 4-0 spurt moments later would catapult Portland back into the lead at 19-17. Scratching and clawing, Pravednikov and Dvornikova combined for a trio of kills, putting Pepperdine up 24-23, before Raymond downed the last kill of the set as the Waves took the frame 25-23.It's Nikol's turn❗️ The left-handed tip keeps us in control 💪 #MakeWaves | @PepperdineWaves https://t.co/88O0MZLD77
