MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine women's volleyball team (15-4, 7-1 WCC) began its brief two-match homestand with a sweep of San Francisco (10-11, 2-6 WCC) on Thursday night at Firestone Fieldhouse.
The Waves have now won four in a row, improving to a season-best 11 games over .500. Having played eight conference matches with 10 remaining, Pepperdine is on pace to match or best its 15 WCC victories from last season.
Mariia Nikol Dvornikova paced the Waves with nine kills, tying for the most among all players. Chloe Pravednikov and Ella Piskorz each had eight and Maggie Beauer tacked on seven more. Laine Briggs and Irelynd Lorenzen led the defensive effort, tallying 12 digs and four blocks, respectively.
"We played very efficient volleyball tonight," said Head Coach Scott Wong. "Proud of our continued pursuit of serving tough and swinging aggressively!"
The Waves set the tone out of the gates, going on a 6-0 run largely in part due to a trio of kills from Pravednikov. Later on, with Briggs serving, Pepperdine went on another 4-0 spurt to double its lead to 18-9 as Beauer rattled home a couple kills. The Waves never looked back as Pravednikov notched another kill and Ryan Gilhooly closed out a 25-13 first set win with a service ace.
Another seesaw battle to start the third set quickly turned into a sizable advantage for Pepperdine as Lorenzen and Beauer combined for a block before Raymond tallied a service ace, and the Waves led 10-5. Pepperdine proved to be too much for San Francisco to handle as the Waves cruised on an 11-1 run to close out a 25-12 third set win, and a 3-0 sweep of the Dons.

Pepperdine opened set two with three straight points, but the Dons would not go away easily. It became a pesky back-and-forth battle and the Dons started sharing the attacks well, getting kills from Andjela Sojic, Katariina Korhonen, and Bailey Maeve before Korhonen landed a service ace to give San Francisco a 10-9 lead. Pepperdine looked like they would start to pull away after a Briggs service ace to regain the lead at 12-10, but a 5-0 answer would catapult the Dons back in front, 14-12. The Waves would come back and nearly silence the Dons the rest of the set. San Francisco would score just three more points as Pepperdine poured it on with kills from Beauer, Dvornikova, Piskorz, and Lorenzen, while forcing the Dons into five attack errors. Tristen Raymond put the cherry on top of a 13-3 run with consecutive service aces to win the set 25-18 and put Pepperdine in line for a potential sweep.no thanks 🙂↔️ #MakeWaves | @PepperdineWaves https://t.co/Xs9uuIX1Tt
