MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine women's volleyball (16-4, 8-1 WCC) improved to 7-1 at Firestone Fieldhouse in 2026 with a four-set victory over the Santa Clara Broncos (8-13, 4-5 WCC) in Malibu on Saturday afternoon.
The Waves extended their winning streak to five consecutive, improving to a season-best 12 games over .500. Maggie Beauer paced Pepperdine with 17 kills, while Chloe Pravednikov (14) and Mariia Nikol Dvornikova (11) also reached double figures in that department. Iva Popovic and Eliya Dev each tallied a pair of service aces, while the Waves were able to stave off Cate Shanahan's game-high 21 kills for Santa Clara.
"Santa Clara came out and played a very good match," stated Head Coach Scott Wong after the contest. "They served us tough and creatively attacked us. Ultimately, we buckled down and played some pretty gritty volleyball to win today's match."
It was the Broncos who came out with an early field-goal-length lead at 10-7 following a kill from Shanahan and Allison Dzieciuch. Pepperdine responded nicely, getting quality serves from Popovic and Dev that allowed the Waves to rally and gain a 15-7 lead. The blue and orange started to put the foot on the gas and let Beauer rip several kills, starting a string of five straight points that put Pepperdine ahead 22-16. The Broncos answered with a 4-0 run behind the serves of Shanahan to pull within three, but a pair of Ella Piskorz kills helped seal the deal as Pepperdine took set one, 25-22.
Piskorz helped get Pepperdine started on the right foot in the third set with a service ace. Irelynd Lorenzen and Beauer combined for a block that had the Waves leading 10-7. Pravednikov would step up later in the frame and go back-to-back on kills, and the Waves held a 17-16 lead. Near the end of the set, with neither team able to pull away, Santa Clara quickly gained momentum as Aslayan hammered a pair of kills. Each team kept lengthening the set as a kill from Shanahan knotted things at 26 apiece, and she wound up forcing a fourth set with the final kill as Pepperdine dropped the set 26-28.
Santa Clara was seemingly in control with a 10-6 advantage in the fourth set, but the Waves came crashing back. Pepperdine's defense was ultimately a huge difference, pressuring the Broncos into three consecutive attack errors to pull ahead 15-14. It was a back-and-forth clash, as neither team could pull ahead for good until Lorenzen, Beauer, and Dvornikova strung together a few points to put Pepperdine up 23-19. A couple kills from Shanahan and Grace Flanagan gave the Waves a brief scare, but Dvornikova helped secure the 3-1 win with one final kill.

Set two proved to be another tight battle. Santa Clara started off with a 9-5 lead behind Shanahan's powerful right arm, downing another kill that forced Wong to call a timeout. The Waves responded out of the break, climbing to within two after a Beauer kill. Despite a kill from Santa Clara's Selin Aslayan, Beauer started a 7-1 spurt in which Pepperdine pulled ahead 16-15 on an attack error from Aslayan. The blue and orange kept the momentum going and forced Shanahan into a couple errant kills. Beauer helped put the finishing touches with two more kills down the stretch as the Waves went up 2-0 after a 25-23 set win.they make it look easy ❗️ #MakeWaves | @PepperdineWaves https://t.co/JZXcetFryJ
