MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine men's tennis team will open its fall campaign at the 2025 Battle in the Bay Classic, hosted by the University of California, Berkeley from Sept. 11-14.
A staple in the fall tennis schedule, this will be Pepperdine's fourth appearance at the Battle of the Bay Classic in the last five years. Aside from Pepperdine, players from 13 other schools — including NCAA quarterfinalists TCU, Texas, UCLA and Stanford — will be in attendance. The singles draw features just 32 players, while the doubles draw has 16 doubles teams, both of which can be found here. All pertinent information can be found on the Pepperdine men's tennis team's schedule page on pepperdinewaves.com.
The Waves are sending just two individuals to the tournament: David Fix and Aleksa Pisaric. Both men will play in the singles and doubles draws, and this will be their first time competing at the Battle in the Bay Classic.
Last season, Pisaric played primarily at the fifth position, where he went 11-10 in dual match play. The West Coast Conference Second Team Singles selection clinched the Waves' wins over No. 9 Texas A&M and No. 26 Princeton that year. He will face No. 88 Roger Pascual Ferra of TCU in the first round on Thursday at 11 a.m.
As for Fix, the WCC Singles Honorable Mention award winner went 13-7 while holding down the sixth singles position for the Waves. He never faced a nationally ranked opponent, yet he went a perfect 3-0 in conference play and capped off the year with a thrilling, three-set tiebreak win over Alabama's Damien Nezar to clinch the Waves' first-round win in the NCAA Tournament. Fix's first-round opponent is Stanford junior Hudson Rivera; their match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
This weekend will be the maiden tournament for Fix and Pisaric as a doubles pairing, as Pisaric was only paired with Lasse Poertner last season, while Fix made six appearances in doubles play. The Waves take on Georgia's No. 84-ranked duo of Derrick Chen and Santiago Giamichelle Thursday at 9 a.m.
From here, the Waves' next collegiate tennis tournament is the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, held from Sept. 25-28.
