TEMPE, Ariz. - Pepperdine Director of Tennis Adam Schaechterle has been selected as ITA's (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Southwest Regional Coach of the Year. The ITA made the announcement this afternoon as part of the organization's Division I men's tennis regional awards.
Â
Schaechterle has now garnered the accolade twice, previously winning the award in 2021. It is just the fifth time in program history the honor has been claimed by a Pepperdine head coach. Adam Steinberg earned the award in 2006 and 2012, with Peter Smith taking home the honor in 2002.
Â
Since 2019, his first season at the helm of Pepperdine's program, Schaechterle has guided the Waves to an impressive 125-70 record, a 64.1 winning percentage. The 2025-26 campaign saw Schaechterle and the Waves make the West Coast Conference Championship Match before making a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, defeating No. 39 Michigan and stunning No. 7 LSU, eventually falling to Baylor in the Super Regional.
Â
Every year, the ITA recognizes coaches and student-athletes for their excellence both on the court and in their communities throughout the season. The national award winners will be announced on Tuesday, June 16th. To see a full list of this year's regional winners, click here.
